Warriors win 2022 NBA title (Sports News) – The Golden State Warriors, led by star point guard Stephen Curry, have clinched 4th championship in eight years, Friday morning (Singapore Time) at the TD Garden, in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
They defeated Eastern Conference champions Boston Celtics 103-90 in Game 6 of the series, winning the chip for the first time since the franchise relocated to the Chase Center in San Francisco.

The home team were off to a strong start, with Boston outscoring Golden State 14-2. However, the Warriors patiently overcame the lead to make it by the half. Curry got hot and performed well in the third quarter, making threes and also driving to the hoop for layups.
The Celtics then looked to cut the deficit in the third quarter, the only time they had more points than Golden State. However, the Steve Kerr-coached Warriors always had an answer. He also contributed on the other end of the floor with two steals and a block.

Andrew Wiggins was Golden State’s next best scorer, adding 18 points to the total score. Longtime teammates Klay Thompson and Draymond Green chipped in 12 points each, while Jordan Poole contributed a remarkable 15 points off the bench.
Meanwhile, Jaylen Brown led the Ime Udoka-coached Celtics in the losing effort with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Boston’s other star Jayson Tatum was just limited to 13 points. Al Horford was Boston’s second-leading scorer with 19. Robert Williams III and Marcus Smart added 10 and 9 points, respectively.

Curry was also crowned Finals MVP, the first time he has ever been awarded in four title runs. The voters were unanimous in selecting the 2009 7th overall draft pick for the award. Curry posted an average of 31.2 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists in the series. By winning Finals MVP, he has another trophy to add to his 2 season MVPs, 1 All-Star MVP, 1 Western Conference Finals MVP and four NBA titles.
When Golden State trailed in the series 1-2, Curry scored 43 points on the road in Game 4, a moment which arguably turned the tide in the series. The Warriors would then win three straight to clinch the Larry O’Brien trophy. Curry averaged 31.2 points, six rebounds and five assists in the six games of the finals series.

Curry could not hide his emotions as the buzzer signaled the end of the deciding game in Boston.
“I’m so proud of our group, I thank God every day that I get to play this game with some amazing people,” said the 34-year old in an emotional interview. “This is what it’s all about, especially after everything we’ve gone through in the past three years.”

Steve Kerr also nabbed his fourth championship as a coach. He previously won five rings as a player in spells with the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs.
Also, with the win, the Warriors now have 7 titles overall, surpassing the Bulls (6) to become the third most successful franchise in the NBA. Only the Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers (tied at 17) have more championships.
