Warriors v Celtics Game 6 Prediction – Warriors Performance

The Warriors returned to Chase Center after tying the series in Game 4, and questions were raised if they could score a second straight victory. True enough, right off the first whistle, Golden State erupted for. Stephen Curry, however, had an off night having not scored from beyond the arc, settling instead for two-pointers. He did get help from his supporting cast, led by 2014 number 1 draft pick Andrew Wiggins who had 23 points off of 26 shots, including a thunderous dunk to secure the win for the Warriors and put them on the hill. The former Minnesota Timberwolves star also pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out two assists.

Curry’s perennial wingman Klay Thompson was also a key contributor with 21 points. Jordan Poole and Gary Payton II meanwhile came off the bench to score 14 and 15 points, respectively.

Coach Steve Kerr shared his thoughts on why Curry struggled. “I think Boston did a really good job defensively, as we would expect, they’re a great defensive team,” he said. “I thought they put more pressure on him early, and then Steph [Curry] missed some open ones too, so it’s always a combination.” However, Kerr praised his star’s adaptability.  “I like Steph coming off of a game like this,” he continues. “I like his ability to bounce back. So to be able to win the game with our defense and with our depth, it was a great team effort.”

Stephen Curry was not his usual self after he made his record-breaking performance in Game 4 with 43 points. In a rare moment, he was unable to sink all nine of the three-point shots he made and had to score within the arc to great success. With Boston’s defence arguably getting to him, he must now find a way to contribute more and finally capture the elusive Finals MVP plum once and for all.

Boston proved themselves worthy contenders in the series, as they dominated Games 1 and 3. However, they were off their game early on in Game 5 as the Warriors opened with a 17-6 run. Not only were the Celtics shackled by GSW’s defence; they were also forced into committing costly turnovers. Robert Williams III was beaten by Green in the post, and Thompson locked down Finals MVP contender Jaylen Brown.

The Celts threatened after the halftime break, with Jayson Tatum leading a 10-0 run. The 12-point deficit was then erased, but the Warriors kept in pace. After Jordan Poole ended the third quarter with a buzzer-beater beyond the arc, Boston could no longer catch up.

Tatum had 27 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the Celtics in the losing effort. Marcus Smart added 20 points, while Jaylen Brown scored 18.

Coach Ime Udoka shared his frustrations with the officiating in the game. He himself had an altercation with referee Tony Brothers after the latter accused the former of side-eyeing him. “I think it was a little bit of that [officiating] throughout the game. So not necessarily only in the fourth,” Udoka said. “Probably something we shouldn’t do as much and we all did too much.”

Jayson Tatum now faces the responsibility of carrying his team while against the wall. After Golden State have kept the impact of Brown, Smart and Williams to a minimum, the Boston star has to provide leadership in what could be his biggest game yet. Being able to do so at home will be a huge boost, but to what extent?

Warriors v Celtics Game 6 Prediction – Final Thoughts

The Warriors thunderous start to Game 5 dictated the rest of the contest, and it will be a tall order to repeat that in front of a hostile Boston crowd. Also, the Celtics Big 3 of Tatum-Brown-Smart still put up big numbers in the loss. We do, however, see Curry returning back to his Game 4 mode, with Thompson contributing on both sides of the floor and Wiggins getting his groove in his debut finals experience. Thus, expect the Dubs to close it out on the road. With that, let’s take a look at our prediction.
