Spain last saw action in the last World Cup, where they were knocked out of the round of 16 by Morocco on penalties. Norway were not in the World Cup, but in the same period drew Finland 1-1 in a friendly. Let’s now take a closer look at each team.

Spain v Norway Prediction – Preview

Spain

Spain will look to end over a decade of waiting for a trophy and win their fourth European Championship in Germany. Their World Cup campaign ended abruptly, as they looked promising in their 7-0 beatdown of Costa Rica, but then drew with Germany 1-1, and upset by both Japan (1-2) and Morocco (0-0, 0-3 on penalties). For the EURO 2024 qualifiers, Luis de la Fuente takes over from Luis Enrique as manager. De la Fuente keeps 11 of the Qatar veterans, adding 15 new faces which potentially includes RCD Espanyol’s Joselu and Osasuna’s David Garcia. As for the keeper, Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Simon will miss out due to injuries, with Brentford’s David Raya expected to be between the sticks.

Norway

Norway begin anew their quest to take home a trophy for the first time, nearly a century after they won the bronze medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Apart from the qualifiers, the Løvene are also in League B of the UEFA Nations League, where they sit second in Group 4 behind Serbia. Unfortunately, the face of Norwegian football, Erling Haaland of Manchester City, will miss the qualifiers due to a serious groin injury. Manager Ståle Solbakken has nevertheless called up a squad of their best players in Europe, with Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard expected to pick up the slack for Haaland. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig’s Orjan Nyland is predicted to be the number one for the Norwegians.

Spain v Norway Prediction – Final Thoughts

Despite the absence of the dominant Haaland, Norway are still brimming with talent, and Odegaard’s captaincy will make it hard for Spain. Nevertheless, La Furia Roja may have regained their confidence after a disappointing World Cup campaign, and their deeper pool of talent will be enough for them to see off the Løvene in Malaga. With that, let’s take a look at the prediction.
