Ronaldo scores 700th club goal!

Ronaldo scores 700th club goal (Sports News) – Cristiano Ronaldo reached a milestone by netting his 700th ever club goal. The Portuguese star did this only 15 minutes after coming on as a first half substitute against Everton. It was also his first goal in the Premier League this season, having already netted once against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League. Let’s know more about this news story.

Ronaldo Scores 700th Club Goal – How It Happened

As in most previous matches, Ronaldo sat on the bench to begin the match. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner finally got into the game on the 28th minute, replacing the injured Anthony Martial.

Leading up to the historic moment, he was put on through by Casemiro, and left-footed the ball past Everton keeper Jordan Pickford. His effort completed the Red Devils comeback, who trailed 0-1 before Antony levelled with a clean finish on 10 minutes.

With the goal, the 37-year old has scored his 144th for Manchester United. He has netted the most with Real Madrid (450), where he famously spent 9 years of his career. Other club goals include five for Sporting Lisbon and 101 for Juventus. Overall, he has a total of 817 goals, including 117 he scored for Portugal on the international level.

Ronaldo Scores 700th Club Goal – Unique New Celebration

Ronaldo, whose trademark “Siuu” celebration after scoring is one of the most iconic in football, chose to do a different reaction for his 700th club goal. The Portuguese striker ran to the corner flag, stood and placed his hands next to his chest. Teammate Antony also went over to the corner and also did the celebration.

It turns out that this celebration was a self-deprecating nod to his sleeping position when travelling with the team. This apparently was an in-joke with the rest of the squad, and the decorated superstar embraced it in celebrating his milestone goal.

Ronaldo Scores 700th Club Goal – Praise from Both Sides

Everton manger and former Ronaldo PL rival Frank Lampard was in awe of the forward’s  achievement. “It is outstanding, one of the greatest players that has graced the game in an era when we have had himself and [Lionel] Messi,” the former Chelsea player said “The comparison doesn’t matter, they are both incredible players in football history. The numbers they have racked up… abnormal numbers that have become normal. When he was on 699, I wanted him to score in the Europa League the other night.”

His own coach, Erik ten Hag, was also full of praise. “That is really impressive, when you score 700 goals, it’s a huge performance,” said the former Ajax boss. “I’m really happy for him, I congratulate him on that performance and I’m also happy it’s his first goal this season in the Premier League – he had to wait for it and I’m sure there will be more goals.”

Ronaldo Now Top Scorer – Relationship with Ten Hag

Despite the accomplishment, Ronaldo’s future at United still hangs in the balance. He may also find it hard to find a more suitable club. Over the summer, he has been rejected by Champions League clubs such as Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich among countless others.

The 37-year-old remained committed to this fitness, despite being on the bench. He has also not completed 90 minutes for the Red Devils in more than one year. He is also the club’s only genuine striker after the departure of Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood. Ten Hag may not be likely to shell out for a replacement striker, which complicates Ronaldo’s stay at Old Trafford.
