Portugal v Uruguay Prediction – Preview

Portugal

Portugal currently top Group H, securing 3 points after seeing off Ghana 3-2 at the Stadium 974. After a goalless 45 minutes, new club free agent Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from the spot, netting in his 5th consecutive World Cup. Andre Ayew then levelled for the Black Stars, but Joao Felix and Rafael Leao each scored to give A Seleçao a comfortable lead. Omar Bukari threatened for the Ghanaians when he headed home, but the Portuguese held on to put the victory into the books. Manager Fernando Santos praised his side, claiming they had “total focus and a fantastic spirit”. Can they hold onto this as they seek revenge against La Celeste from four years ago?

Uruguay

Uruguay are third in Group H after their opening battle with South Korea yielded a scoreless draw. The first half saw both La Celeste and The Taegeuk Warriors getting great chances, with Diego Godin almost scoring as his headed corner hit the woodwork. The last 45 minutes began uneventfully, but picked up pace in the end, with Federico Valverde hitting the post from long range, and Segio Rochet’s error causing Son Heung-min to just shoot wide. Manager Diego Alonso was disappointed in the result, believing his men outplayed the South Koreans throughout the game. Can the South Americans finally show up in their much-awaited rematch with A Seleçao?

Portugal v Uruguay Prediction – Final Thoughts

Despite winning by the skin of their teeth with Ghana’s late comeback, Portugal showed that they can dominate a game. We did not see this with Uruguay against South Korea, and we wonder if their talented roster would finally settle in in this match. Thus we foresee a tight match between these two powerhouses, with A Seleçao prevailing in the end. With that, let’s take a look at our prediction.
