Mbappe to Leave PSG? – Where It All Started
The 23-year old was the subject of reports that he wanted to leave the capital club. This is coming 5 months after a huge contract with the organisation. There are rumours that Mbappe has been betrayed by the hierarchy of PSG, and that he is set to leave in the next transfer window. He was also linked with a possible transfer to Premier League side Liverpool.
The news broke out at the same time as PSG’s home fixture against Benfica in the UEFA Champions League. Mbappe is 1/3 of PSG’s formidable frontline which includes Brazilian striker Neymar Jr. and seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.
Mbappe to Leave PSG – Madrid Not Interested
One of the supposed targets of Mbappe last summer was Real Madrid. It was a boyhood dream of his to come to the club. However, he famously spurned them in favour of PSG, leaving fans disgusted. Florentino Perez, the president of the Spanish club, claimed he had no more interest in signing the striker when he was asked at the 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Mbappe signed a 3-year contract extension with Paris, keeping him with the club until 2025. This ensured that he will not join Los Blancos on a free transfer, as many have previously speculated.

Mbappe quickly shot down the rumours after the Le Classique game with Marseille last Sunday. “I’m very happy. I never asked for my departure in January,” the 2018 World Cup winner stated on French radio station RMC Sport. “I was just as shocked as everyone else. There are people who may think I’m involved in this, but I’m not involved, I was taking a nap.”
Earlier, PSG chief Luis Campos mentioned that Mbappe has not told him of his intentions to leave.”Mbappé has never told me about his intention to leave in January,” Campos told French outlet Canal Plus. “We speak with him, Messi, Ney… we’re very happy to be here.”

The prestigious annual award, celebrating the best player in the world, went to Mbappe’s France teammate Karim Benzema. The PSG striker was one of many to congratulate Benzema on his achievement, posting on Instagram, “Congratulations brother. Deserved!”
