“To have won this trophy three times in a row and five times in six years is incredible,” the City midfielder continued. “That quality and consistency helps sum up what Manchester City stand for and ensures the club will continue to strive for success going forward. It has been a season I will never forget. Our amazing fans have been with us every single step of the way. Without their amazing backing I don’t think there is any way we would have been able to achieve what we have done these past six seasons. Their passion and support have been so important and inspirational for us all.”

The only other English club to win a similar treble is City’s arch-rivals, Manchester United, back in 1999 under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Man City win 3rd straight EPL – Haaland’s Impact

Man City will now try to win the UCL once and for all with their acquisition of rising superstar Erling Haaland in the summer. The Norwegian footballer, who is also the son of City legend Alfie Haaland, is currently the top candidate for the EPL’s Golden Boot for most goals scored in a season. He also has set a new record for the most goals in the 38-game top-flight season, as his 35th goal against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium broke the previous record of 34, jointly held by Andy Cole (1993/94) and Alan Shearer (1993/94).

In his first five appearances in the league, Haaland had a record nine goals, including hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. Since then, he scored two more hat-tricks against Manchester United and Wolverhampton Warriors, with his four trebles just short of Shearer’s record five in 1995/96. He also scored five doubles to boot. Overall, he scored in 23 of his 33 league appearances against 16 opponents.

Meanwhile, in the UEFA Champions League, Haaland has also made waves. His best performance for the club in the competition so far was a five-goal contribution to 7-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the second leg of the UCL round of 16. With the performance, he dethroned Kylian Mbappe as the youngest player to net 30 UCL goals, and equalled Lionel Messi’s record of five strikes in one match. He then went on to lead City past Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals, and helped dethrone holders Real Madrid in the semis.

Will City make history yet again? Stay tuned in the coming weeks to find out.
