Man City v Leipzig Prediction – Preview

Manchester City F.C.

Manchester City have set themselves up for a make-or-break second leg, after being held to a 1-1 draw at the Red Bull Arena. Riyad Mahrez provided the lone goal for the Citizens in the first half, after Jack Grealish intercepted a pass from the Red Bulls leading to the Algerian’s finish into the bottom right corner. After Leipizig equalised in the second period, Ilkay Gundogan has chances to snatch the lead, but Janis Blaswich promptly denied his fellow German twice. The Pep Guardiola-led side have since won all of their encounters,  with the last one being a narrow 1-0 result over Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Erling Haaland converted his penalty after Michael Olise’s hard tackle on Gundogan. Could they finally dominate their German rivals in the second leg?

RasenBallsport Leipzig

RB Leipzig prevented Man City from an outright victory in their home stadium, after their second period goal forced a 1-1 draw. Josko Gvardiol’s header on Marcel Halstenberg’s cross was a redemption of sorts from the Red Bulls, who failed to make an impact in the first half. They had chances to steal the lead, but Timo Werner, Andre Silva and Dominik Szoboszlai were unable to get past Ederson. The Marco Rose-led side would then have mixed fortunes in the Bundesliga, edging out Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1) then losing to Dortmund (1-2) before winning over Monchenglabach again (3-0). Werne, Gvardiol and Emil Forsberg all netted in their last encounter, which can serve as an encouragement as they head to Manchester to wrap up their round of 16 tie.

However, a fully-healthy Citizens squad will have the upperhand to an injured Red Bulls side. Thus, we see the Mancunians punching their ticket to the UCL quarter-finals in a hard-earned win.
