Liverpool v Chelsea Prediction – Preview

Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool are now at 9th in the table in the Premier League. They suffered a huge setback in the league after two consecutive away losses to Brentford (1-3) and Brighton (0-3). Alisson was unable to keep out goals from Solly March and Danny Welbeck in yet another disappointment for the Reds. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side redeemed themselves later in the week against Wolverhampton in the FA Cup third round replay. Harvey Elliot’s spectacular goal from outside the box was all Liverpool needed to see off Wolves 1-0 and enter the Cup’s 4th round. But with Elliot suffering an injury, plus the absence of key players like Darwin Nunez and Virgil Van Dijk, could the Reds make it two straight against the also-struggling Blues?

Chelsea F.C.

Chelsea are just 10th in the table, with the same number of points as Liverpool. After two consecutive league losses, they narrowly edged out London neighbours Crystal Palace 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. The competition was tight in the first 45 minutes, with both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Vicente Guaita making crucial saves for their respective teams. But by the second half, Kai Havertz proved the difference as he rose to head home Hakim Yizech’s cross. Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang failed to double the lead when Guaita saved his shot, and the Eagles got the better chances later on but failed to convert. Graham Potter’s side needed the win after being hit with a new set of injuries, plus with newbie Joao Felix still out another game due to a red card. Could they somehow pull through against the Reds next?
