Liverpool v Brighton Match Prediction – Preview

Liverpool F.C.

Liverpool are currently seated 8th in the EPL table. In their last league meeting, they were forced to a 0-0 draw by Merseyside rivals Everton. Their succeeding EPL games were postponed in light of Queen Elizabeth II”s death, but they took part in two Champions League games with different results. They suffered an away defeat to Napoli (1-4), with Luis Diaz pulling back a single netter. Afterwards, they defeated Ajax 2-1 at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip scoring for the Reds. Manager Jurgen Klopp’s side had a slow start after a campaign which saw them compete for the Quadruple, but the international break may have changed things. Could they re-establish their dominance against a Brighton side under new management?

Liverpool have only lost one of their 10 EPL matches with Brighton (W7 D2): a 1-0 loss at home in February 2021
The Reds are undefeated in their last 26 EPL matches at Anfield (W20 D6), keeping 15 clean sheets during the run. In the 11 times they conceded, they’ve conceded the goal 8 times, including each of the last 6.

Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.

Brighton & Hove Albion are currently seated 6th in the EPL table. In their last outing before the international break, they demolished Leicester City 5-2 at the Amex Stadium. Even thought the Foxes’ Kelechi Iheanacho was first to score, the Seagulls quickly caught up, as Solly March’s header hit Luke Thomas going into the net. Moises Calcedo captured the lead for the home team 5 minutes later, but Patso Daka scored to make it 2-2 at the half. Leandro Trossard would then net to regain the lead, and Alexis MacAllister’s brace sealed the win for what would be Graham Potter’s last Brighton stint. Now, with Roberto de Zerbi calling the shots, could they maintain winning form against the unpredictable Reds?

Having avoided a loss in only 2 of their first 11 away matches against Liverpool (W1 D1 L9), Brighton are undefeated in their 2 such trips to Anfield.
The Seagulls have just lost one of their last 11 EPL games (W7 D3), going down 1-2 at Fulham last August. Consider each side’s last 10 EPL games, only Tottenham Hotspur (26) and Manchester City (24) have had more points than Brighton.

Liverpool v Brighton Match Prediction – Final Thoughts

With the extended break for both sides, Liverpool will have the advantage of being under the same manager. Whatever missteps the Reds have committed in the past will finally see them unlock their full potential with the league restart. Brighton, however, are more uncertain with Potter’s exodus to Chelsea. The untested De Zerbi will have the unenviable challenge of rallying his troops in an away fixture, which the hometown Reds will certainly exploit. Thus, the Merseysides should make quick work of the Seagulls in a much-needed win. With that, let’s take a look at our predictions.
