Both France and Poland avoided defeat in the first two Cup matches, but are both coming off a loss going into the Round of 16. Les Bleus bowed to Tunisia after seeing off both Australia and Denmark, while Poland fell to Argentina after thrashing Saudi Arabia and drawing to Mexico before that. Let’s take a look at their group performance.

France v Poland Prediction – Preview

France

France finished the group stage atop Group D with 6 points. They easily secured a place in the knockout stages with a 4-1 rout of France and 2-1 drubbing of Denmark. Les Bleus, however, narrowly lost to Tunisia (0-1) in a match wherein the French second unit started. Wahbi Kahzri broke the deadlock after a scoreless first half when he slotted into the far corner. Substitute Antoine Griezmann almost stole a point for the French when he finished home, but VAR ruled him offside, granting the Eagles of Carthage a historic win despite elimination from the knockout stages. Manager Didier Deschamps and his men have survived the curse for reigning Cup champions, and will be raring to go forward for the rare two-peat. Are the men from Poland capable of crushing Les Bleus’ dreams?

Poland

Poland finished the group stage at second place in Group C. They started their campaign with a scoreless draw against Mexico, then trampled Saudi Arabia 2-0, with Piotr Zielinski and Robert Lewandowski scoring their first ever World Cup goals. Their unbeaten streak then came to an end against Argentina, bowing 0-2. After Wojciech Szczęsny successfully denied Lionel Messi‘s penalty kick, the Biało-czerwoni keeper failed to keep out the second half efforts by Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez. The Czesław Michniewicz-led side, however, were still able to advance by having a higher goal difference than Mexico, with whom they were tied for points. As they return to the knockout rounds since 1986, will the Poles have another stroke of luck against the reigning World Cup champions?

France v Poland Prediction – Final Thoughts

With the face-off between Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski as an added storyline, this match will surely be one of the most anticipated. Poland, who have waited 36 years for this moment, will go all out in an effort to last longer in the knockout rounds. However, France still are the deeper team on paper, despite the upset by Tunisia. Thus, we see Deschamps’ men cruising to victory in an emphatic win. With that, we take a look at the prediction.
