Brazil begin their WWC campaign on top of Group F with three points. They made a statement early on after thrashing world no.52-ranked Panama, 4-0. Ary Borges made a case early on for the Golden Boot as she made the first hat-trick of the tournament. Beatriz Zaneratto Joao also benefitted from an assist from Borges, striking into the top right corner on 48 minutes. The Pia Sundhage-led side loom as favourites to win it all, but standing in their way in a French side whom they have not yet ever defeated.
