Celtics v Warriors Game 5 Prediction – Celtics Performance

The Celtics looked to be in control of the series after going up 2-1 in the series in their first Finals home game since 2010. While the Warriors were still red-hot on offence in the first half, efforts by Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart were able to keep the visitors at bay in the first half, which ended 54-49 in the Celtics’ favour. However, the tide turned in the second half as Golden State outscored them. Marcus Smart, who had 18 points, scored a three-pointer to give the Celtics a 94-90 lead with over five minutes remaining. However, the Warriors controlled the tempo from thereon out and the Celts fell by ten points.

Main star Jayson Tatum still managed to impress in the losing effort, chucking up 23 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. His partner Jaylen Brown was not far behind with 21 points, 6 rebounds and two assists. Marcus Smart also added 18 points, while Derrick White had 16 points off the bench.

Coach Ime Udoka was unfazed with the loss, saying, “We had to do it the difficult way. We have to do it again. It could have been an easier road, obviously, if you get the win tonight. But we’re 2-2 now. We know we can do it. We’ve done it before.”

Celtics v Warriors Game 5 Prediction – Warriors Key Player

Jaylen Brown has been usually regarded as Tatum’s sidekick, but this Finals has shown that he is just as important a factor for the Celtics. The Warriors have successfully limited his and Tatum in Game 4, and the rest of the team were unable to make an impact as well. Already seen as a potential Finals MVP contender, he needs to take the lead again in an important away game–a game which could dictate the rest of the series.

Celtics v Warriors Game 5 Prediction – Celtics Performance

With the Warriors being 1-2 down in the Finals, there was a lingering doubt if the team who won three titles in the 2010s could get back into the series. There was lingering doubt even as they kept it close with the Celtics at the half. However, Stephen Curry channelled vintage Finals form and rallied Golden State in the second half, chipping in 43 points on 14-for-26 shooting. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player also grabbed 10 rebounds and made 4 assists to leads the Dubs to a ten-point victory against the home side.

Former top overall draft pick Andrew Wiggins also had a double-double in the win, sinking in 17 points and pulling down 16 rebounds. Sixth man Jordan Poole also played an important role with 14 points. Klay Thompson, Curry’s wingman in their past three championships, continued to struggle in form despite being second in points (18). Kevon Looney too had 11 boards off the bench.

Coach Steve Kerr praised Curry’s performance, saying “He’s the ultimate competitor. Made huge plays down the stretch. This is a tough series for him to score because of Boston’s size and athleticism, but he’s still impacting the game at a huge level.”

Celtics v Warriors Game 5 Prediction – Celtics Key Player

Stephen Curry responded in a big way in this series, putting up his finest Finals performance yet. With the young Celtics side dominating as first-timers and leading in the stats department, he took it upon itself to reclaim the “heart of a champion”, against all odds. The question is if he could still keep it up at home, with Thompson being a shadow of himself, and the likes of Wiggins and Poole still yet to develop their game.

Celtics v Warriors Game 5 Prediction – Final Thoughts

The Finals is living up to expectations, having reached its second series deadlock in four games. No doubt the fifth instalment will be pivotal, with the victor most likely to win it all. Unless proven otherwise, the Celtics still have a slight advantage over the Warriors, with Udoka proving himself a master of adjustment. Curry risks being limited again, unless Thompson and Draymond Green recapture their intensity in their championship seasons. And with Tatum, Brown and Smart all continuing to impress, we see them pulling away again for a chance to end the series at home. With that, let’s take a look at our prediction.
