Blackburn appoint Tomasson as new boss (Sports News) – Blackburn Rovers, official partner of BetVision, have officially named Jon Dahl Tomasson as their new manager. He will be replacing longtime boss Tony Mowbray, who announced his departure at the end of the EFL Championship season.

Blackburn Appoint Tomasson – Record Transfer

The announcement of the appointment was made earlier this week. The search proved to be exhaustive, as it included first- and second-stage interviews. What tipped everything in Tomasson’s favour is having led Swedish side Malmo FF to two consecutive league titles.

The Dane signed to a three-year contract, meaning he will be Rovers boss until June 2025. He also prepared an outline to show how he would improve the Rovers Academy.

The 45-year-old will be joined by new assistant coach Remy Reijnierse and performance director Ben Rosen. They will be joining forces with coaches David Lowe, Damien Johnson and Ben Benson.

Blackburn Appoint Tomasson – Manager and Club Statement

“I’m really proud and excited to be taking over as Head Coach of Blackburn Rovers – a club with a lot of tradition and also great ambition,” Tomasson said in his unveiling. “I grew up watching English football, so I know all about the passion for football here and how special football fans are in England, so it’s great to come to such a big club as Blackburn Rovers and to be involved with such passionate fans and in a really good league, which the Championship is. It will be a great challenge, but it’s something I’m really looking forward to being a part of.”

Blackburn CEO Steve Waggott also shared with the media the factors that led the club’s management to sign Tomasson. “His work around developing players, along with demanding a culture of giving everything to the club, is exactly what we need at this juncture,” he said. “His passion, purpose and humility shone through in his interviews and we obviously have high hopes that he will build on the platform that has been established over the last five years.”

Director of Football Gregg Broughton seconded Waggot on his statement. “In Jon Dahl Tomasson, we have been able to recruit a Head Coach who fits perfectly with the direction that Blackburn Rovers wants to go in.” he said. “We are excited about developing the Owners’ vision on the pitch and we look forward to building on the solid foundations laid by Tony Mowbray.”

Blackburn Appoint Tomasson – Visit to Training Centre

Tomasson wasted no time in getting acquainted with his new club, as he flew in with Reijnierse to have a first look around the Senior Training Centre. And the incoming boss was delighted with his observations, citing that Blackburn were on the right path for sustainable success, which could lead to a possible future promotion to the Premier League.

“It’s been a good day, I have a real positive impression of everything and I’m really looking forward to getting started,” the 45-year old shared. “It’s great to be at a club with a great Academy and young players who can be developed, to develop the team and the club. It’s easy to buy players but we have a great Academy and we want to develop players to be a club that can grow over time.”

“If everybody’s dream is to go to the Premier League, sustainability will help you have a chance of staying in there,” Tomasson added. “We need to be better than the rest, better than our rivals in doing the right things and developing our players and our team.”

Blackburn Appoint Tomasson – His Background

Jon Dahl Tomasson has had an illustrious career, having played for clubs such as Heerenveen, Newcastle United, Feyenoord, AC Milan, Stuttgart and Villarreal. As a Denmark international, he netted 52 goals in 112 caps.

He retired in 2011 and immediately went into coaching, working for Dutch sides Excelsior and Roda JC on a temporary basis. He then took an assistant role for both Vitesse Arnhem and the Danish national team.

Tomasson’s most prestigious accomplishment yet was being appointed Malmo FF boss in January 2020. Under his leadership, he led his side to two successive Allsvenskan titles, as well as in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League. Malmo also became only the fourth Swedish team this century to qualify for the groups stages of the UCL, thanks to the Danish manager.

As he begins another chapter in his managerial career, we at BetVision wish Jon Dahl Tomasson and the rest of Blackburn Rovers the best of luck, as they prepare for the 2021/22 Championship Season!
