Barcelona v Real Madrid Prediction – Preview

F.C. Barcelona

Barcelona are comfortably on top of the LaLiga table, 11 points clear of their arch rivals. Their last league encounter saw them narrowly defeating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 at the San Mames Barria. Sergio Busquets set up Raphinha to open the scoring before the break, and Robert Lewandowski almost headed in another goal. Marc Andre ter Stegen proved his value by saving attempted equalisers by the hosts. Inaki Williams thought he had levelled late in the game, but VAR showed that Iker Muniain handled the ball. Manager Xavi praised his men’s effort, stating that “they showed personality”. As they take on their greatest foe next, will Barça be able to handle them a second straight defeat?

Real Madrid C.F.

Real Madrid remain second in the league table, trailing Barca by double digits. Their last league outing saw them beat the other Catalan club, RCD Espanyol (3-1). While Espanyol’s Joselu opened the scoring at just 8 minutes in, Vinicius Jr. equalised 14 minutes later and Eder Militao headed home to make it 2-1 before the break. Marco Asensio then sealed the win in second half stoppage with a lovely strike. The Carlo Ancelotti-led side also continue to march on in the UEFA Champions League, as they knocked out Liverpool 6-2 on aggregate. Karim Benzema provided the lone goal in the second leg at the Bernabeu, as the reigning European club champions lived to fight another day. Could they also show the same composure against their greatest rival, who lead them in the domestic league?
