Arsenal v Sporting Prediction – Preview

Arsenal F.C.

Arsenal escaped a humiliating loss at the Estadio Jose Alvalade when the score ended at 2-2. It was William Saliba who fired the Gunners ahead at the 22nd minute, but the hometown Leões turned around the tide by the 55th minute. However, the visitors were saved when Hidemasa Morita turned Granit Xhaka’s pass into his own net. The Mikel Arteta-led side followed up this performance with a 3-0 thrashing of London rivals Fulham in the Premier League. The first half goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard were enough for Arsenal to humble the Whites. As they travel back to the Emirates, will the Gunners finally go through at home?

Sporting Clube de Portugal

Sporting Lisbon fell short of a historic first win over Arsenal, leaving them to settle the score in London. After they fell behind by one goal, Gonçalo Inacio capitalised on poor marking to equalise for the Leões. Paulinho stole the lead after Matt Turner parried the ball his way, but Morita’s own goal only 7 minutes later had them settling for a draw. The Ruben Amorim-led side would have a similar fate as Arsenal in the Primeira Liga game afterwards, beating Boavista 3-0. Nuno Santos opened the scoring, while a Salvador Agra own-goal doubled the lead, and Paulinho scored in stoppage to secure the victory. Will Sporting somehow buck the odds and get a first-ever win over the Gunners for a trip to the last 8?
