Chelsea have been inconsistent in their last five games across all competitions with two wins, one draw and two losses; however, they are coming off a win with new manager Graham Potter. AC Milan too have been inconsistent, but have mostly won their assignments and are also fresh off a win. Let’s now take a closer look at each side.

AC Milan v Chelsea Prediction – Preview

A.C. Milan

AC Milan slid down to third in Group E, having one win, one draw and one loss (4 points), plus a -1 goal difference (4 scored, 5 conceded). They were on the receiving end of a clean sheet by Chelsea last week at Stamford Bridge. Manager Stefano Pioli earlier shared that new owner Gerry Cardinale was displeased with the result, and expected his men to improve in the reverse fixture. Could the Italian side make it even with their English opponents at home?

AC Milan are winless in 5 outings against Chelsea in Europe (D3 L2) since winning the very 1st encounter in the Fairs Cup in February 1966. Having lost the previous week, the Rossoneri have not before lost back-to-back matches against the Blues.
AC Milan ended a run of 6 UCL home games without a win (D3 L3) on match day 2, beating Dinamo Zagreb at the San Siro. The Rossoneri can win back-to-back home games in one season in the tournament for the 1st time since 2011/12 against Viktoria Plzen and BATE Barisov.

Chelsea F.C.

Chelsea have inched up to second Group E, now also having a 1-1-1 record (4 points). They have registered a higher goal difference (2) than AC Milan, after netting 4 and conceding 2. The Blues recorded their first UCL win under new manager Graham Potter last week. Wesley Fofana opened the scoring from a rebound after Ciprian Tătărușanu parried the ball. New Blues player Pierre-Emrick Aubameyang tapped home Reece James’ cross on 56 minutes to double the lead, and James himself finished at the near post to secure the win. Will we see a repeat of this domination when they visit the Rossoneri at the San Siro?

Chelsea only allowed 4 shots against AC Milan in the last time out. Since Opta have the data for the UCL, the Blues have just faced fewer in a match in the competition twice, doing so against Malmo FF in October 2021 (2) and vs Galatasaray in March 2014 (3).
The Blues’ last away match against an Italian team in the UCL was against Lazio back in November 2003 (4-0) Since that time, the Blues have not won in their last 7 away matches to face Italian sides in the competition (D1 L6), losing each of the final 5 in a row between 2010 and 2021.
